BONDING:
Bonding is a term for establishing a trusting and loving relationship or bond with your sugar glider. Sugar gliders are social animal and can become extremely bonded with us.
There is no specified time for bonding to take place. Some owners report bonding instantly with their new babies. Others, especially older gliders or rescues, may have trust issues or just may take longer. Each individual sugar glider will bond in its own time. There is no way to rush this process, but there are a few techniques that may assist you in the bonding process. Again, as each sugar glider is an individual, different bonding techniques may have varied results. You will have to be patient and loving and figure out what works for you and your particular glider.
Techniques that have worked particularly well for me are:
1. Bonding pouch
2. Licky treats (a sweet treat like yogurt on your fingers for them to lick off)
3. Hand feeding mealworms daily
4. Youth tent (a youth tent from Walmart works wonders). You can sit in the tent and allow the sugar glider to come to you on its own terms in its own time while at the same time, controlling where it can go. This also helps keep the glider from being distracted by its surroundings and/or getting into trouble or getting away.
I will be happy to personally assist you with bonding after determining your specific needs and situation. Please contact me to set up an appointment or email me for information.
